CAT tires and industrial waste management facility launched! Media Review
The problem of finding the best technologies for the disposal of CAT tires is very relevant. Until recently as we speak, it all boiled down to landfilling or burning. However, it is widely known how much these two methods are harmful to surrounding ecosystems and humans. The existing ways of recovery or recycling tires are economically unprofitable and not effective enough.
The technologies developed by IPEC are capable to solve the waste CAT tires treatment challenge at the production site of the ore-dressing complex of JSC Apatit (PhosAgro).
The official launch of the Russia’s only complex on processing and recycling of industrial wastes – used CAT tires and railway sleepers – took place at the territory of the mining and processing plant in the Murmansk region on August 29. Journalists of some mass media showed interest in the event.
The complex includes two modules, one of which, due to tires treatment process gives the fuel necessary for the operation of another unit, the Khibinformburo news agency reports.
The agency quotes Anton Turtanov, the Head of the Department for Environmental Control and Nature Management of JSC Apatit, about the environmental safety of equipment:
‘As affected by high temperature in a sealed chamber, the tires, one can say, is decomposed. The process is fully automated and eliminates harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The outputs, we get, are firstly, scrap (the remainder of the cord), secondly, carbon black (in fact – the same coal), and thirdly, liquid fuel, similar by its properties to diesel.’

According to the REGNUM information agency and news portal Bezformata.ru 15% of scrap metal, carbon residue and 45% of liquid are obtained from a ton of old tires. Decomposing, rubber releases gas, which condenses and turns into liquid fuel. It, in turn, will be used in the waste thermal treatment plant. It processes industrial waste, such as fuel filters and sleepers, altogether is more than 100 types of waste.
IA TASS, Izvestia newspaper website and the Rambler.News portal reported that both automatic mode units may scale back landfilling 20 times-fold. All the equipment is domestic and manufactured by Safe Technologies, St. Petersburg Company.
According to the Nord-News and NationNews portals, the acquisition and commissioning of this Complex corresponds to the implementation of the investment strategy of the PhosAgro Group, the main vector of which is the construction of facilities using the most advanced technologies, in particular — sustainable production. This was stated by Director General of PJSC PhosAgro Andrey Guriev: ‘Such assets are more environmentally friendly and have low-impact on the environment.’
The implemented project is one of the articles of the agreement on environmental safety between the PhosAgro and the Government of the Murmansk region in the Year of Ecology in Russia.

As noted by the Director General of JSC PhosAgro-Cherepovets Mikhail Rybnikov, the facility will work not only for the needs of the company, but also for the entire region, as the utilization of industrial wastes is a problem for all mining enterprises.
The Director General of JSC Apatit managing organization Andrey Abrashitov expressed confidence that the work of this complex will be highly appreciated by the industrialists of the region, the Government of the region and the ecological community.
